40 young fashion models showcased 14 designers of the future in the fashion dome. They were supported by 5 young makeup artists, 5 young hair stylists with 2 interns, 4 runners and 6 dancers.

FREEDOM ISLAND
Informed by the Festival theme of “Breaking Free” and the anniversary of the abolition of slavery, the Visual Arts Zone event invited visitors to collaborate with artists on the design and creation of their own ideal island nation – a utopian experiment in which various workshops and seminars revolved around the concepts of freedom, independence and cultural identity. Workshops will utilise drawing, printing, photography, typography and the ancient art of fuzzy felt.

Polaroid Project: a response to slavery - young people took Polaroid pictures of visitors who wrote a single word in response to slavery beneath their portrait. These were collected and exhibited at Rich Mix during the festival week.

Flying the Flag: mixed media flag workshops where participants designed their own flags using elements, patterns and colours from the global palette, creating a unique portrait that represented their own mix of cultures and influences.

Simon Green (Eventful) supervised a group of young VJs, with a specially commissioned visual performance to compliment the opening acts on the main stage.
